How to log in to your sten.email inbox with IMAP
An @sten.email address can be opened in a normal mail app. Every app asks for the same five things, and the password is already on that inbox.
If a security address or an inbox address ends in @sten.email, you can read that mail in Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook, or any other app that speaks IMAP. The dashboard inbox still shows the same messages. This login is a second way in, and it exists only for sten.email.
The settings
Type these in. Do not let the app guess a Microsoft or Gmail server.
- Incoming server:
mail.sten.email - Port:
993 - Security: SSL/TLS
- Username: the full address, such as
[email protected] - Password: that inbox's password, copied from the dashboard
The mailbox is read only. You can open it and read what arrived. The app cannot delete, move, or send mail from this address.
Copy the password
From Inbox
Open Inbox and select the @sten.email address. The row above the messages says IMAP 993 · SSL/TLS · read only. It also shows mail.sten.email, which you can copy, and a button labelled Copy inbox password.
That password belongs to this address only. A different @sten.email address has its own password, and a mail app signed in as one of them cannot see the other.
From an account you secured
If a secure saved an @sten.email address onto an account, open that account in the vault. The security-mail password on the account is the same password. The account page also has a row you can copy: IMAP server (993, SSL/TLS). It copies mail.sten.email.
The username is the whole address. The part before the @ is not enough.
Add it in your app
Thunderbird
Open Account Settings, then Account Actions, then Add Mail Account. Enter your name, the full @sten.email address, and the password from the dashboard.
If Thunderbird guesses the wrong server, choose Manual config. Set the incoming side to IMAP, server mail.sten.email, port 993, connection security SSL/TLS, authentication Normal password, and the username to the full address. Leave outgoing mail empty, or keep a server you already use for sending. This inbox cannot send.
Apple Mail
Choose Mail, Add Account, then Other Mail Account. Enter your name, the full address, and the inbox password. When it asks for the incoming server, type mail.sten.email. If it asks for a port and a security setting, use 993 and SSL.
Outlook
Add an account and choose IMAP when Outlook offers a choice. Incoming server mail.sten.email, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS. The username is the full address. The password is the one you copied. You can leave the outgoing server unused.
What you will see
After the app connects, the inbox lists the messages stored for that address, including security codes. You will not see mail that was sent to a different address. To read a second inbox, add it as its own account with its own password.
Deleting, moving, and sending are refused. If the app marks a message read, that mark stays in the app. The unread count in the dashboard does not change because of it.
If it will not connect
- The address has to end in @sten.email.
- Port
993, security SSL/TLS. Not port 143, and not STARTTLS. - The username is the full address, copied without a space at the end.
- The password is the inbox password from the dashboard. It is not the Microsoft password, and it is not the password you use to sign in to sten.wtf.
- If the app saved a bad guess, remove that account and add it again with Manual config.
Copy the password again from Inbox if a login says the password is wrong. The button copies the current one.
